Community Involvement
PepsiCo is a leader in taking action, driving the discussion and creating innovative teaching and motivational tools that help transform lives. As stated on the company’s official website, “As a leading food and beverage company, we believe we can play an important role in helping people lead healthier lives (PepsiCo).” PepsiCo is an international corporation that believes in bettering the lives of individuals all around the world. They help by addressing national and global crises; natural disasters, serving the underprivileged, and encouraging healthy living for all.
When disasters occur and people need help, PepsiCo responds with financial support from the PepsiCo Foundation or food and beverage donations from PepsiCo local teams. In total, PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation provided more than $1.4 million for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, including thirty truckloads of beverages and snacks to storm victims and relief workers (PepsiCo).
Since 2009, PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation have contributed a total of $3.5 million to support the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation's programs; a U.S. effort designed to help reduce obesity. They have developed a global wellness strategy which is designed to get PepsiCo associates and their families involved in developing and maintaining healthy behaviors to improve their overall quality of life. The Healthy Living program encourages associates
and their families to focus on healthy lifestyles at home, at work and at play.
It includes preventive screenings, personalized coaching, fitness and nutrition
programs, online tools and resources, incentives, work site wellness initiatives
and health benefit coverage to promote healthier lifestyles (PepsiCo).
PepsiCo's Food for Good initiative, is a social enterprise within the company that utilizes sustainable business models to make nutrition accessible for low-income families. PepsiCo delivers healthy meals to underserved children when they are out of school. Since 2009, they have served 1.6 million meals. They have also helped prepare over 1,400 holiday meals to be distributed through food banks in New Jersey and New York states (PepsiCo).
Since 2005, PepsiCo, through its Foundation and divisions, has donated more than $600 million in cash and product to qualified nonprofit agencies that encourage healthy lifestyles by; improving the availability of affordable nutrition, expanding access to clean water, enhancing sustainable agriculture capability, enabling job readiness, and empowering women and girls (PepsiCo).
Today, the PepsiCo Corporation is one of the largest international food and beverage distribution companies in existence, profiting millions upon millions of dollars every year. One may think that their success may cloud their vision, distracting them from what is most important. However, the Pepsi Corporation donates millions of dollars every year to non-profitable organizations to help improve the lives of people all around the world. If these acts of kindness and giving do not speak highly to PepsiCo's corporate identity, I am unsure of what can.
